Our local expert Richard will be following up the Fungi Foray (24th Oct) by sharing his knowledge of our local Waxcap fungi population.

Many thanks to SinCH members for contributing these photos from the last Waxcap event.
Richard will be sharing his in depth knowledge of our Waxcaps. He has been checking pastures on the Cliffs area periodically over a long number of years and he has noticed that the Waxcaps appear to be increasing and he suggests this is helped by the new grazing regime initiated by the National Trust. Given the number of different species identified the Cliffs could now be an area of regional significance for these lovely fungi.

An interesting blog about fungi in general can be found on Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s website here and an in-depth article by Merlin Sheldrake here . You can also check out local sightings of fungus and lichens here.
Warning: never eat fungi unless you are absolutely sure what you are collecting!
